Getting Started with Permanent Makeup at Eyebrows by GG
Considering microblading, nanoblading, powder brows, or another permanent makeup service for the first time? This guide walks you through everything you need to know before, during, and after your first appointment at Eyebrows by GG in Milford, Connecticut.
Step 1 — Choose the Right Service for You
Not every permanent makeup technique fits every client. The best technique depends on your skin type, lifestyle, and goals.
- Microblading — natural hair strokes, best for normal-to-dry skin
- Nanoblading — ultra-fine needles, best for oily skin
- Powder Brows — soft ombre shading, longest-lasting
- Combo Brows — hair strokes plus shading
- Lip Blush — semi-permanent lip color
Not sure which is right for you? Book a free 15-minute consultation — we’ll assess your skin and recommend.
Step 2 — Book Your Free Consultation
The first step is always a free, no-pressure consultation. We’ll:
- Assess your skin type and existing brow growth
- Discuss your lifestyle (skincare, exercise, sun exposure, swimming)
- Review your color and shape preferences
- Talk about realistic expectations and longevity
- Recommend the technique that fits you best
If permanent makeup isn’t right for you (pregnancy, certain medications, recent Botox in the brow area, active skin conditions), we’ll be honest about it.
Step 3 — Prepare for Your Appointment
24 hours before:
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and ibuprofen/aspirin
- No blood thinners (including fish oil)
- Avoid intense exercise
1 week before:
- No tweezing, waxing, or tinting brows
- No chemical peels, glycolic acids, or retinol near brows
- No new skincare products (avoid potential reactions)
Day of:
- Come with clean, makeup-free skin
- Eat a meal beforehand (3-hour appointment is long)
- Wear comfortable, easy-to-remove clothing
- Bring a reference photo of brow shapes you like (optional)
Step 4 — During Your Appointment
Every first-time appointment follows this structure:
1. Consultation review — confirm goals and answer any questions
2. Mapping — GG measures your face and pencils in a custom shape; you approve before any pigment goes in
3. Numbing — topical cream applied; takes effect within 20 minutes
4. Procedure — the actual permanent makeup work, performed in small sections
5. Aftercare briefing — verbal and written instructions plus a complimentary aftercare kit
The procedure itself is comfortable. Most clients describe the sensation as mild scratching or pressure rather than pain.
Step 5 — Aftercare (First 30 Days)
Days 1-7 (sealing): Keep brows completely dry. No water, sweat, makeup, or skincare on the area. Apply healing balm 2-3 times daily.
Days 8-14 (peeling): Brows scab and flake. Do not pick. Color may temporarily look light.
Days 15-30 (settling): Resume normal skincare around (not on) brows. Apply SPF when outdoors.
Day 42-56 (perfecting): Return for your free 6-week perfecting session.
Step 6 — Long-Term Maintenance
After the initial 6-week perfecting session, your brows are settled. Maintenance schedule depends on technique and skin type:
- Annual touch-up: $400 — recommended for everyone
- Color refresh: $250 — for oily-skin clients every 6-9 months
