What to Bring to a Free PMU Consultation in Milford, CT

The 15-minute free consultation at Eyebrows by GG is the most useful 15 minutes you’ll spend on permanent makeup research. But only if you bring the right things.

This guide explains the four specific items to bring and why each one helps us recommend honestly.

Written by GG, Connecticut Licensed Tattoo Artist with 20+ years of brow + lip + eyeliner work.

1. Reference Photos — Brows You Like AND Don’t Like

Bring 6–10 photos on your phone:

  • 3–5 brows you’d love to have (Pinterest, Instagram, magazine cutouts — anywhere)
  • 2–3 brows you’d absolutely NOT want (filtered, overdrawn, wrong-shape examples)

The “don’t want” photos matter more than people expect. They tell us exactly what to avoid even when you can’t articulate it.

Don’t worry about whether the references match your face exactly. We’ll translate the intent of the look — “soft and feathery” vs “groomed and defined” — to your specific face shape and bone structure.

2. A Photo of Your Brows From 5 Years Ago

This is the secret weapon most clients don’t think to bring.

Your brows 5 years ago show us:

  • Original natural shape (before any plucking damage)
  • Original density and growth pattern
  • A baseline that may not exist on your face today

Most “I want my brows back” requests are referencing this exact photo. Bringing it lets us recreate the brow that’s actually yours — not a generic Instagram brow.

3. List of Allergies, Medications, and Skin Conditions

Permanent makeup has specific contraindications. Bring info on:

  • Pigment / metal allergies (especially nickel, gold, iron oxides)
  • Topical / numbing allergies (lidocaine, benzocaine)
  • Blood thinners (Aspirin, Warfarin, Eliquis, etc.)
  • Active skin conditions in the brow / lip area (eczema, psoriasis, severe acne)
  • Recent Botox or filler (timing matters — usually wait 4 weeks)
  • Cold sore (HSV) history — critical for lip blush
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding (we don’t perform PMU on pregnant clients)
  • Recent tan / sunburn (broken skin = no procedure that day)

If you take Accutane, you must be off it for at least 6 months before any PMU procedure.

4. Honest Answers About Your Lifestyle

We’re not judging — we’re calibrating. Be honest about:

  • Skin type: Oily, dry, combination, sensitive (you can describe it; we’ll confirm visually)
  • Sun exposure: “I’m at the beach 3 days/week in summer” matters
  • Workout intensity: Hot yoga and heavy sweating affects pigment longevity
  • Daily makeup routine: Do you currently fill brows? Wear lipstick daily?
  • What you want: “Wake up looking polished” vs “save 10 min in the morning” vs “fix asymmetry”

These answers determine technique recommendations more than any photo.

What the 15 Minutes Will Cover

Here’s the typical consultation flow:

1. Look at your reference photos together (3 min)

2. Examine your existing brows / lips / face structure (3 min)

3. Discuss skin type, lifestyle, allergy info (3 min)

4. Map a quick test shape with brow pencils (3 min)

5. Recommend specific service + pricing + scheduling (3 min)

You’ll leave knowing:

  • Which technique fits your face and lifestyle (microblading, combo brows, powder, lip blush, threading)
  • Pricing for that specific service
  • Whether you should book directly or wait (e.g., heal a sunburn first)
  • Realistic expectations for healing and longevity

What the Consultation is NOT

It is not a sales pitch. We routinely:

  • Recommend eyebrow threading instead of microblading for clients with extremely sparse natural growth
  • Recommend henna brow tinting as a “trial” before committing to PMU
  • Tell clients to wait 6 months because of medical timing
  • Refer to dermatologists when we spot skin issues that need clinical evaluation first

If “honest no” is the right answer, you’ll get it.
