Brow Lamination — Worth the Hype? An Artist’s Take
An honest look at brow lamination — what it does, who benefits, and whether it's worth the money.
Brow Lamination — Worth the Hype? An Artist’s Take
Brow lamination has been one of the most-Googled brow services for the past three years. Here’s what it actually does, who benefits, and whether the hype matches reality.
What Is Brow Lamination?
Brow lamination is a chemical treatment that “perms” your brow hairs into a fixed, brushed-up position. The process uses a relaxing solution to break the hair’s natural bonds, then repositions and re-bonds the hair in your desired shape.
The result: brows that stay perfectly groomed and brushed-up for 6-8 weeks without daily styling.
How Brow Lamination Works
Step 1: Lifting solution applied to clean brow hairs (5-10 min)
Step 2: Hairs combed into desired position
Step 3: Setting solution applied to lock the new shape (5-10 min)
Step 4: Conditioning treatment for hair health (5 min)
Total appointment time: ~30-45 minutes.
Who Benefits Most From Brow Lamination?
Best candidates:
- ✓ Unruly natural brow growth (hairs grow downward or sideways)
- ✓ Sparse spots that need hair “directing” to fill
- ✓ Clients who want fluffy, brushed-up “soap brow” look without daily product
- ✓ Active people who don’t want makeup routines
- ✓ Special occasions (weddings, photo shoots)
Less ideal:
- ✗ Already-perfectly-groomed brows
- ✗ Very fine, brittle hair
- ✗ Recent chemical treatments
- ✗ Sensitive skin or allergies to perming chemicals
Brow Lamination vs Permanent Makeup
These services solve different problems:
| Issue | Solution |
|—|—|
| Sparse pigment / no color | Microblading, nanoblading, or powder brows |
| Unruly hair growth pattern | Brow lamination |
| Both | Combine PMU with brow lamination |
Many of our clients have BOTH. Permanent makeup creates the underlying color and shape; brow lamination keeps natural hairs perfectly positioned.
Brow Lamination Compatibility With PMU
Lamination doesn’t interfere with permanent makeup. The chemicals affect only the hair, not the underlying pigment in skin.
Timing if combining:
- Lamination first, PMU after (lamination has finished healing): OK
- PMU first, lamination after 4 weeks: OK
- Same-day: Not recommended
Brow Lamination Cost
National average: $50-$150 per session.
At Eyebrows by GG: We don’t currently offer brow lamination as a primary service, but can refer to specialized providers in Connecticut. Our focus is permanent makeup and threading.
Lamination Aftercare
For first 24 hours after lamination:
- ✗ No water on brows
- ✗ No makeup on brows
- ✗ No sweating
Days 2-7:
- ✓ Apply included conditioning serum daily
- ✓ Brush brows into shape morning and evening
- ✓ Avoid harsh cleansers
Frequency
Lamination can be repeated every 6-8 weeks. Don’t laminate more frequently — repeated chemical processing damages hair.
Possible Downsides
Honestly:
- Some hair breakage with aggressive technique
- Unusual texture changes (rare)
- Not effective on very short hair
- Doesn’t add color (you’ll need separate tinting if desired)
- Maintenance required (daily brushing for the look)
Frequently Asked Lamination Questions
[FAQPage schema renders the 3 questions and answers]Considering PMU Instead?
If lamination isn’t quite what you’re looking for, microblading or nanoblading provides a more dramatic transformation that lasts years rather than weeks.
